Introduction

Here are some tips, tricks another other resources to help make using Firefox just a little bit easier.

Add-ons

Add-ons (extensions, themes and plugins) are what make Firefox so customizable. While they can add great features to Firefox they can all cause major headaches.

Add-ons Block List

Mozilla has a Block List of extensions, plugin and themes. These add-ons have been blocked from being used in Firefox as they are unstable or pose a security risk.

An easy how-to guide on Bookmarks: Backing up and Recovering.

Passwords

Bring your saved passwords in to another install/profile of Firefox see Importing Saved Passwords.

Spellcheck

The built-in spell check is a great feature of Firefox. However, there is a flaw by default which Firefox will not check single line text area fields. The Spell Check Tweak fixes this flaw. Ever added a word to the Firefox dictionary in error see Removing Added Words From Fx Dictionary for help.

Firefox Performance

Speed Up Firefox Startup provides quick and easy steps to improve the startup time and over all performance of Firefox 3.0 or later. Especially useful for Windows users.

Tabs

Address most common complaints about the Firefox tab bar and tab behaviour.

Close Tab Button

Many people find they do not like having the Close Tab button on each tab. Makes for confusion and too easy too accidentally close a tab. The Close Tab Buttons Tweak addresses this complaint.

Tab Overflow

By default Firefox keeps all your tabs the same width. Depending on the resolution settings, Firefox can only fit so many tabs across the screen. Once this threshold is met the tab overflow (scrolling tab bar) feature kicks in. For users who rather have all their tabs visible on the screen, the Tab Overflow Tweak will allow this.

Tab Tearing

The biggest complaint with Firefox 3.5 is the new tab tearing feature. This feature allows a tab to be teared off the tab bar and placed into a new window. The problem with this feature is the sensitivity is way too high resulting in many users tearing their tabs simply by trying to switch between tabs. The Disable Tab Tearing tweak will fix this feature.
