How Do I Remove Duplicate JAVA Consoles?

Windows Only

Every time there is an update to the JAVA Platform a new Firefox plugin is added and the older ones should become disabled. While there is no harm in having duplicate JAVA Console Plugins, it does cause clutter and can cause Firefox to take a little longer to load. Also, unless you are a JAVA Developer this plugin is not going to be of any use to you. Trying to remove the duplicate JAVA Console Plugins can get a bit tricky.

  • Removing the JAVA Console extension(s) manually from within extensions folder in the Firefox install (NOT profile) folder. In most cases on Windows this is going to be C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox or C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\ (hint: right-click on the desktop short cut and select properties to find the install location of Firefox. With Firefox not running, from within the extensions folder, delete folders which begin with {CAFEEFAC . . . . }. Warning: Windows Vista, Windows 7 and 8 users will get a UAC alert, be sure you are logged as admin. Restart Firefox then go into the add-ons manager to confirm the extension(s) is/are gone.
