Firefox uses Sun’s Java Runtime Environment (JRE). It can not be used with the Microsoft Java VM, as that can only be used with Internet Explorer. To install JAVA on Firefox on Windows (Linux and Mac OS X users see this link):
- Via Windows Control Panel’s Add/Remove Programs remove Microsoft Java VM (if installed)
- Close Control Panel
- Go to Java.com XPI Install site
- Click the orange Download button next to Windows (XPI)
- Note: It may be necessary to allow downloads from this site
- Note: If you have allowed downloads but are still unable to refer to FAQ: How Do I Enable Software Installation? for more info.
- This will open the software installation window (just like when installing extensions or themes)
- Once active, click the ‘Install’ button
- Select ‘typical installation’ from the User Agreement Window
- Once the install is completed, click ‘Finish’ to exit the Install Wizard
- Close and restart Firefox
- Return to the Java.com XPI Install site
- Click the orange ‘Verify Installation’ Button
- SessionSaver & Tab Mix Plus users, you may get a message ‘We detected your visit to a download page and think you may NOT but have restarted(closed and re-opened) your BROWSER since that visit!
Have you restarted your browser since your last Java install’, simply click ‘Verify Installation’ to continue

- If everything installed correctly, you will be directed to a confirmation page listing your ‘JAVA Environment’ with a message: ‘CONGRATULATIONS, you have the Latest version of Java!’
