“Extensions are small add-ons that add new functionality to Firefox. They can add anything from a toolbar button to a completely new feature. They allow the application to be customized to fit the personal needs of each user if they need additional features, while keeping Firefox small to download.”
There are thousands of extensions that have been created by Firefox users for Firefox. On Go Firefox! we have a folder dedicated exclusively for extensions.
How Do I Install Extensions?
Browse through the extensions at Firefox Add-ons once you find an extension you like follow the instructions on the page to download and install.
Notes
- Some extensions only work with certain versions of Firefox therefore, Firefox will not allow you to install an extension that will not work the version of Firefox you are running.
- An extension is not fully installed and will not function until you have shut down and restarted Firefox
- There is no known limit to how many extensions you can have installed.
- If you are getting the message: “Software Installation is Currently Disabled. Click Edit Options…to enable it and try again” when trying to install Extensions or Themes, see the Troubleshooting Add-ons Installation section below.
How do I disable an extension?
To disable or turn-off an extension:
- Firefox 3.6 (all platforms) & Firefox 4 (Windows XP, Linux and Mac) - From the ‘Tools’ Menu select Add-ons
Firefox 4 (Windows Vista/7) - From the Firefox Menu select Add-ons - Select the Extension you wish to disable
- Click the ‘Disable’ Button
- Click the X in the upper right corner to close the Add-ons Window
- The extension will be disabled once you close down and restart Firefox
How do I re-enable an extension?

How do I remove an extension?
Removing an extension in Firefox is very simple:
- Firefox 3.6 (all platforms) & Firefox 4 (Windows XP, Linux and Mac) - From the ‘Tools’ Menu select Add-ons
Firefox 4 (Windows Vista/7) - From the Firefox Menu select Add-ons - Click the Extension you wish to remove
- Click the ‘Uninstall’ button
- Click the X in the upper right corner to close the Add-ons Window
- The extension will be fully removed once you close down and restart Firefox
